The Blueprint of Resilience: What is Bastion?

If you aren't familiar with Bastion, it is time to get briefed. Located on 5.5 acres in New Orleans, Bastion is America’s first intentional community designed from the ground up to support injured veterans and their families.

If you aren't familiar with Bastion, it is time to get briefed. Located on 5.5 acres in New Orleans, Bastion is America’s first intentional community designed from the ground up to support injured veterans and their families.

But let’s be clear: this isn’t just a housing development or a clinical facility.

Bastion provides cost-free programs and resources to veterans all across New Orleans, and now, San Antonio. This powerful intentional community stretches far beyond the bounds of Bastion's Veteran Wellness Center and its 58 onsite homes. Through meaningful, lasting relationships, veterans at Bastion are redefining their own care by building communities of connection and creating citywide networks of support.

Bastion works on the fundamental truth that the greatest resource veterans have is each other. By breaking the cycle of social isolation, they cultivate a protective perimeter of peer support.

Through life-changing initiatives like their "Headway Program"—which provides specialized, cost-free day rehabilitation for post-9/11 veterans living with mild-to-moderate brain injuries and neurological conditions—Bastion isn't just giving heroes a roof over their heads. They are giving them their purpose back. They are helping them rebuild their personal "Technical Architecture."

Defeating the Invisible Hazard: Social Isolation

In recovery, whether from addiction or the trauma of combat, the ultimate hazard is isolation. The "Old Self" loves to get you alone in the woods where the whispers of convenience and self-pity get loud.

That is why Bastion’s model is so profoundly aligned with the Skull & Bogeys ethos. They recognize the opportunity to re-enlist a veteran into a community of accountability. By placing injured warriors alongside neighbors and fellow veterans who serve one another everyday, Bastion creates a space where no one has to play out of the bunker alone.

By funding this nonprofit veteran community, our crew is helping build the infrastructure of resilience. We are helping complete resource centers, scale up the Headway day program, and ensure that transformative cost-free resources remain open to the 15,000+ of veterans who call New Orleans home.
